President Ruto Unveils Historic Education Boost: 20,000 New Teachers and 1,800 Labs to Transform Kenya’s Schools
In a sweeping initiative to strengthen Kenya’s education sector, President William Ruto recently announced an ambitious plan to recruit 20,000 new teachers starting January 2025. This new recruitment wave builds on the 56,000 teachers hired over the past two years, marking one of the country’s largest investments in addressing the teacher shortage and improving classroom quality. President Ruto emphasized that the additional teachers will be deployed to underserved areas to reduce class sizes and ensure more equitable access to education.
In a further commitment to quality education, Ruto highlighted the construction of 1,800 laboratories to enhance science learning across the country. Recognizing that many students have lacked practical science experience, Ruto affirmed that these new labs will equip students with essential skills and prepare them for future careers in science and technology.
Additionally, President Ruto confirmed plans to grant permanent positions to 46,000 current intern teachers, a move that promises job stability for educators and helps retain skilled professionals in the classroom. These strategic efforts reflect the government’s vision to empower the next generation and lay the foundation for a highly skilled workforce. As Ruto noted, “An investment in education is an investment in our country’s future,” underscoring his administration’s focus on fostering a robust education system.
