Kalonzo Blasts Ruto’s “Gestapo” Tactics, Demands Justice for Detained Protestors.

In a scathing address on November 3, Azimio la Umoja’s Kalonzo Musyoka condemned the Kenyan government’s crackdown on citizens protesting against the Finance Bill 2024.

Flanked by fellow opposition leaders, Kalonzo expressed alarm over what he called President William Ruto’s authoritarian handling of dissent, accusing the government of suspending constitutional rights in its response to demonstrations.

According to Kalonzo, these actions have eroded democratic freedoms, citing instances of alleged unlawful detentions and brutal police tactics that led to multiple injuries.

Kalonzo issued an ultimatum, demanding the release of detained protestors and calling on the government to justify its accusations that the protests were infiltrated by criminal actors.

He challenged Ruto to disclose any evidence supporting these claims, stressing that failure to do so would indicate that the state’s use of force was politically motivated. Drawing parallels to “Gestapo-like” operations, Kalonzo asserted that such methods are an affront to the democratic values Kenyans hold dear.

In a symbolic show of solidarity, Azimio leaders pledged to donate blood to those injured in the crackdown, reinforcing their commitment to stand with the people.

This development reflects mounting tensions as Kalonzo emerges as a central figure in Kenya’s opposition, positioning himself as a vocal advocate for accountability and justice amid a shifting political landscape.
