Education CS Urges Teachers to Return to Class Amid Government’s Promises to Address Their Grievances

In the midst of a nationwide teachers’ strike, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migosi has called on members of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) to end their protest and resume teaching. He reassured teachers that the government is committed to resolving the issues raised, including the implementation of the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and other critical concerns.

Migosi highlighted that the government has already allocated the necessary resources to fulfill the CBA, which includes salary increments and improved working conditions. He also mentioned that funds have been earmarked for the retooling of teachers, particularly to equip them for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

The CS stressed the government’s goodwill and readiness to engage in constructive dialogue, urging teachers to avoid further disruption of the academic calendar. Despite his appeals, KUPPET has remained firm in its stance, with teachers continuing to strike until their demands are fully met.
