TSC Announces Salary Increments, Promotions, and Allowance Adjustments for Teachers in 2024
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced significant updates affecting teachers’ salaries, promotions, and allowances in 2024. Under the ongoing 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), teachers will see salary increments of between 7% and 9.5%, with adjustments beginning in July 2024. This increase comes after the first phase was implemented in 2023. The new salary scales will apply across various job grades, improving the financial conditions of teachers, especially those in primary and secondary schools who had previously missed out on promotions.
Additionally, the budget allocation for 2024 has paved the way for the promotion of 9,000 primary and 3,000 secondary school teachers, addressing long-standing concerns about career stagnation. Teachers will also benefit from revised house allowances, commuter allowances, and hardship allowances, ensuring better support for those in remote and challenging areas.
These changes come alongside the increased education sector budget of KSh 364.9 billion, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving teacher welfare and addressing critical gaps within the sector.
