KNEC Tightens the Net: Innovative Measures to Stamp Out Exam Cheating in 2024
As the 2024 national exams approach, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has rolled out stringent measures aimed at curbing cheating. In response to rising concerns about exam integrity, KNEC is personalizing all exam papers. Candidates will find their names, index numbers, and schools printed directly on their papers, which will make it nearly impossible for unauthorized individuals to take the exams. This personalization will also help KNEC trace any potential misconduct back to the individual responsible.
To ensure impartial marking, the section of the paper containing personal details will be removed before the exam scripts are graded. Additionally, KNEC will pack exam papers for morning and afternoon sessions in separate cartons, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access to exam content before the scheduled time.
In a further crackdown, mobile phones are now banned for supervisors, invigilators, and center managers during exam sessions. Phones will be locked away under supervision, ensuring that no communication devices can be used to facilitate cheating.
A rotation system for exam supervisors is also being introduced. No supervisor will stay at a single exam center for more than a week, reducing the chances of familiarity and collusion. These measures aim to create a transparent, fair, and secure environment for all candidates taking part in the exams.
