Kericho Governor Ousted Amid Scandal: Sexual Misconduct and Abuse of Power
Kericho Governor Erick Mutai’s political career has been thrown into turmoil following his impeachment by the County Assembly. Thirty-one out of 47 ward representatives voted in favor of removing the governor, citing a series of damning accusations. The most serious of these involve claims of sexual misconduct, with several female employees alleging inappropriate behavior by the governor.
In addition to the sexual misconduct charges, Mutai is accused of abusing his authority, particularly regarding an incident where he allegedly led a mob to seize private land, turning it into an unauthorized dumpsite without the owner’s consent. His leadership style has also been criticized, with claims of creating a toxic work environment, including intimidation and harassment of staff members who opposed him.
Despite securing a court order to halt the impeachment process, the assembly moved forward, and now the Senate is set to review the charges and determine Mutai’s fate. The governor has denied the allegations, but the upcoming Senate hearing will be crucial in deciding whether he will be permanently removed from office.
